Gavin Science and Health Scholarship

This scholarship was established in honor of the late Dr. Katherine Gavin. Katherine was the founding member of the Dr. Charles E. Gavin Women鈥檚 Auxiliary and continued to be active until her death in 2009. She loved children and devoted much of her energies and resources to the furtherance of their education, learning, and dreams. Teaching, education, and the welfare of others were common threads throughout Katherine鈥檚 life.

Katherine matriculated at Franklin Elementary School which was later renamed to the Dr. Charles E. Gavin Elementary School. She also served as the Dean of Students at Washington Junior High School and as Principal of Lincoln Elementary School. In part because of her commitment and dedication to the education of youth in the Bloom Township School District, Katherine was an inaugural inductee in the Bloom High School Hall of Fame.

She put her gained knowledge to work in her beloved South Suburbs of Chicago in the different school systems throughout her career. She was active with the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Lambda Tau Omega chapter which supports the educational initiatives of the Women鈥檚 Auxiliary.

She founded the Prairie State College Instructional Course Laboratories and the Personalized Learning Programs. Upon retiring from the College she opened and ran a private educational consulting firm until illness prevented her from continuing.
