If you decide to study abroad independently, there are many options to choose from. ºÚÁÏÉçis affiliated with the following program providers which offer discounts for our students. Here are the steps to get you started:

  1. Start thinking about your reason for study abroad. Take into consideration the term that will work for you, your major, where you would like to study and if the location and program offerings will benefit your academic and professional career.ÌýÌýGovStateÌýrecommends that you study abroad through one of our affiliated program providers. One way in which you can filter through the options and narrow down your preferences is through the affiliated provider websites. If you do not find what you are looking for, you can also search a larger database on the websiteÌý. You can also search study abroad reviews at .

  2. Make an appointment with the OIS Associate Director, Rene Gosch, to discuss your options and the next steps.

  3. Complete yourÌýÌýGovStateÌýStudy Abroad Application which includes getting course approval from yourÌýÌýGovStateÌýAdvisor and Dean by having him/her fill out the Study Abroad Course Approval Form, located in the application packet. Meet with the Financial Aid Office to determine how financial aid may apply to the program abroad.

  4. Upon confirmation fromÌýÌýGovStateÌýthat you are eligible to study abroad and your credits will transfer, you can apply to the independent study abroad program.

  5. Upon confirmation of participation from the independent study abroad program, students must submit a copy of their passport to OIS. The Study Abroad Coordinator will also assist the student in purchasing international health insurance throughÌýÌýGovStateÌýand help prepare the student for departure.

  6. Students can apply for theÌýÌýGovStateÌýStudy Abroad Scholarship located in the general application packet. Check with OIS on the scholarship application deadlines.Ìý
